The Fierce Freedom Podcast

Jun 15, 2020

For many individuals the grooming process of exploitation begins in the home, perpetrated by a family member or another adult who has been given access to the child. According to The Counter Trafficking Data Collaborative nearly half (41%) of victims were recruited into trafficking by a member of their family or a relative.

This week we are joined by guest Cheryl Voyles, an author and survivor of familial trafficking, as well as a former board member for Fierce Freedom. She recalls her experience of incest at the age of 4, explaining how this played a role in grooming her to be trafficked by her parents for many years until she finally “aged out.” Cheryl also shares how these experiences “shattered her” leading to complex physical and psychological issues she continues to wrestle with today.

Due to her life experiences, Cheryl has been advocating for victims of trafficking for 12 years, her heart is to help others who may relate in any way to her situation. She is currently working on writing a book as well as a trauma related website for individuals who have been impacted by sexual violence – www.askmesurvivor.com.
